The Start of Something Beautiful is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We are continually working to improve the experience for all visitors and to apply relevant accessibility standards.

Our Standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.

Measures We’ve Taken

To support accessibility, this website was built with:

  • A “skip to content” link that lets keyboard and screen reader users bypass the header
  • Semantic page structure with a logical heading order and landmarks
  • Text alternatives for informative images
  • Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators
  • Text and background colors checked to meet WCAG contrast requirements
  • Form fields with visible labels, clear required-field indicators, and autocomplete for name and email
  • Links that open in a new tab announced to screen reader users
  • A responsive layout that works at different screen sizes and supports browser zoom

We review the site as content is added or changed, using both automated testing tools and manual checks.

Known Limitations

Although we work to keep the whole site accessible, some content may not yet fully meet our standard. This can include:

  • Downloadable guides and other PDF documents
  • Embedded videos, which may not yet have captions
  • Third-party websites we link to, such as Etsy and Instagram, which we do not control
